So if you’re anything like us here at Leftos, you got a little bit of geek inside of you. I mean, don’t we truly all? We tend to embrace our inner geek (I mean we do run a website and all) but often times we are forced to suppress our geekiness when it comes to the more conventional and old school things in our society. I guess you can’t wear jeans and a t-shirt everywhere you go and there’s even some places where talking about the internet is just not that cool.
Traditionally weddings have been one of those places. Generally you have to wear a stiff suite or worse, an uncomfortable tux. The ladies have to wear long dresses with high heels which often times leads to amazing trips which you can watch endlessly on YouTube like this. Furthermore, you get stuck listening to a lame band play classic Motown jams while you watch old couples dust off their dance shoes and hit the dance floor.
However, one of the most boring and overlooked aspects of a traditional wedding is the invitations. Usually people spend thousands of dollars trying to get fine fabrics and unique colors onto the cards. Why do they do this? We don’t know but it doesn’t matter because we were able to find some of the coolest, non-traditional, “embrace your inner geek” wedding invitations around. How many times have you been out and about and caught a quick glimpse from the hottie across the room or passing along the sidewalk? Now compare that to how many times you’ve noticed someone looking at you who’s so-so on your attractive scale…you probably notice the hotties more than the non-hotties.
Well according to research done by psychologists at the University of Abderdeen and the University of Stirling in Scotland, women notice men who are looking at them with masculine facial features quicker than they notice men with less masculine features. The research shows comparable data in men noticing women with feminine features compared to women with non-feminine features.

Two of the most important people in your life, your boyfriend (or girlfriend) and your best friend, can’t stand the sight of each other. They flat out hate each other. You can feel more tension in the air when they’re together than you can at a dinner table with Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien. So you’re out at the bar chatting it up with some people and flirting here and there. You see an extremely attractive person having a drink at the bar and you instantly aim your eyes for their left ring finger. It’s something we all do – checking for a person’s marital status.
No ring = single
Yes ring = taken,engaged, or divorced.
It’s like the real world version of Facebook’s “martial status” except a lot more simple. Or should we say was more simple. Recently a new type of ring has been popping up in jewelry stores and is complicating the simplicity of the left ring finger. This new ring is simply called… “The Divorce Ring”.
The idea is simple and we get it. Your marriage didn’t go full circle so neither does your ring.
It makes sense but we can’t help and wonder why you need to go out and buy a $500 ring just to advertise that you’re single. You can easily wear no ring at all and send the same message. Aside from that, when glancing at someone’s finger from a distance (which most people do so they don’t get caught), the gap won’t be noticed and people will assume it’s a wedding ring….which is the complete opposite message that you’re trying to convey.
So here at Leftos, we say no to the divorce ring. Seems like a worthless item with no real need. Tell us what you think though. Do you think the concept is good? If so, why?
