4 Terrible Ways That Parents Affect Our Dating Lives
We’ve all witnessed that crazy set of parents who would do anything to ruin a current relationship. Some may influence your dating life without realizing it, and some may straight up pull a Meet The Parents on your significant other to see what will happen. Whether you like it or not, your parents have an effect on your relationships…
4. By Being The Overprotective Mom
For all you Sex and The City fans out there, remember Bunny aka Mrs. MacDougal, Trey MacDougal’s oh-so-overprotective mother? Well this is the ultimate way that a parent can influence your dating life. Imagine: you’ve just gotten into bed with your hubby, things are heating up, clothes are coming off and then BAM in walks your mother! The humiliation on top of the frustration would be enough to drive a person crazy and RIGHT out of the bedroom. If you think you have an overprotective mom like this, you need to tell her that she’s ruining your relationships and that it’s time to let her baby grow up!
3. By Pointing Out Their Flaws
When your parents start to subtly point out little flaws that your significant other has, they start to add up. You subconsciously see them too and start to feel turned off. You don’t even realize it but your parents have just picked your brain and forced you to not like your boyfriend/girlfriend anymore. Whether or not you want to admit it, your parent’s opinion matters and can have a direct influence on your relationships. Chances are if your parents can find enough flaws in your relationship to even piss you off, you probably shouldn’t be in it anyway!
2. By Being The Paranoid Father
This one is for the ladies. Remember that hilarious Ben Stiller flick called Meet The Parents? How about that famous lie detector scene? I’m surprised Ben’s character didn’t flee the area right then and there. The second your dad starts talking serious in a low tone of voice asking questions such as “are you going to hurt my daughter?” is the second you know that it’s time to get out of there ASAP!
1. By Having That Cultural Bond
Certain cultures have a very overwhelming family structure that can scare away potential mates. From personal experience, I can say that the Armenian culture is tremendously proud to be Armenian. From the media I’m sure you can see that bringing home a boy or girl to the Kardashian residence is nearly a death sentence. Coming into this type of atmosphere can really intimidate people. So now pair that intimidation factor with a strict set of parents and you can bet you won’t be in a relationship for long!
