Our last post was a big one for us. We received a lot of great feedback and positive reinforcement about the concept. On a project kept so quiet, its really great to finally hear the opinions of other people. It’s a welcomed fresh perspective, and one that you sometimes lose in paying such careful attention to the details–so thank you.

In our last entry, we mentioned that it would be “the first of two posts..”. Well this is the second. We figured we would get a few questions from readers, so in this post we’ll answer a few of the good ones.

Questions

How do you plan on keeping the site clean and informational?

This is a very common question that we receive. Because our Alpha version is a private release and limited to a smaller number of users, we ‘ll be able to monitor most of the content ourselves. Sometimes this isn’t enough though, so we’ve put into place a flagging system, so our users can notify us of any content they feel is inappropriate. As a last resort, we’ll terminate a users account if the misconduct continues.

How do you plan on keeping Leftos Anonymous?

On Leftos, your real name doesn’t matter–only your opinions do. So in our sign up process, we ask you to create a unique username that will essentially become your “Leftos Identity”. We encourage anonymity, so our users can participate freely without the fear of embarassment or judgement. Ultimately, this anonymity is a measure of protection for our users. Of course there is nothing to actually prevent a user from entering their real name, that’s their choice. Although, to a large extent, it defeats the purpose of using the site at all.

Will you (the Leftos team) know a users real identity?

This was a great question. Though we do not ask you for your name, we do ask you for email address for confirmation purposes in our sign up processes. Although rest assured, the moment this email address enters our system, it is automatically encrypted. So we’ll see something like this “f114418ca382602977718c0e…”. Like other users, we only know you as your “Leftos Identity”. So to all of your friends and family, don’t worry, no one knows its you.

Who is your target market?

Male and female interactions happen with people of all ages (almost), all races, social classes, etc. One of our goals was to create a place with something for everyone, regardless of these classifications. Therefore our resource breaks down into 6 categories: Single, Dating, Sex, Relationships, Marriage, and Divorce. In accordance with that goal of ours, the majority of people fall into at least one of these categories. Now obviously we can’t say our target market is everyone, so we narrowed it down to: Internet users between 14-64 yrs old who have some form of interaction with the opposite sex. Furthermore we feel the majority of our users will be between 18-35 years old.
