Is That Hottie Over There Looking At Me?

How many times have you been out and about and caught a quick glimpse from the hottie across the room or passing along the sidewalk?  Now compare that to how many times you’ve noticed someone looking at you who’s so-so on your attractive scale…you probably notice the hotties more than the non-hotties.

Well according to research done by psychologists at the University of Abderdeen and the University of Stirling in Scotland, women notice men who are looking at them with masculine facial features quicker than they notice men with less masculine features.  The research shows comparable data in men noticing women with feminine features compared to women with non-feminine features.

We find these results pretty interesting.  We were always under the impression we notice good looking people glaring our way because we are good looking too – ha just kidding.  But seriously, we thought we noticed them looking our way because  we’re usually looking at them in the first place.

The psychologists hypothesize that our brains work this way because we have been programmed over time (aka evolved) to notice the better looking mate as a survival of the fittest thing.  Picking a good mate plays a large role in your offspring and keeping your bloodline in tact.  In our cutthroat world, gaining even the slightest edge in life is valuable to our existence, so being able to notice an attractive mate before the next person helps us get a little farther ahead.

Guess that means all the conceded people who thought that the entire bar was checking them out can come back down to earth.  Looks like they’re not checking you out cause you’re good looking but rather because looking at them…womp womp womp!
